Registered Unemployment in May 2018 – According to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) surveys, at the end of May 2018, 109’392 unemployed people were enrolled in the Regional Employment Centers (RAV), 10’389 fewer than in the previous month. The unemployment rate fell from 2.7% in April 2018 to 2.4% in the month under review. Compared to the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 30,386 persons (-21.7%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged at 2.6%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in May 2018

Youth unemployment (aged 15-24) decreased by 1015 persons (-8.5%) to 10’901. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decline of 4,055 people (-27.1%).

Unemployed 50 and more in May 2018

The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 2’283 persons (-6.7%) to 32’030. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 5,642 persons (-15.0%).

Job seekers in May 2018

A total of 185,467 jobseekers were registered, 8,593 fewer than the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this number dropped by 16,952 persons (-8.4%).

Reported vacancies in May 2018

The number of vacancies reported at RAV increased by 787 to 15,218 sites.

Billed short-time work in March 2018

In March 2018, 1,504 people were affected by short-time work, 314 fewer (-17.3%) than in the previous month. The number of farms affected decreased by 9 units (-5.7%) to 150. The lost working hours decreased by 8’252 (-8.5%) to 88’489 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (March 2017), 310,288 lost hours had been registered, which had been distributed to 4,951 persons in 540 companies.

Deductions in March 2018

According to preliminary figures from the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of March 2018 amounted to 3,101 persons.
