Switzerland Unemployment in May 2017: Decreased from 3.3 percent to 3.2 percent seasonally adjusted

Registered unemployment in May 2017 – According to the SECO surveys, 139,778 unemployed were registered at the Regional Employment Services Centers (RAV) at the end of May 2017, 6,549 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate thus fell from 3.3% in April 2017 to 3.1% in the reporting month. Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell by 5,000 persons (-3.5%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 3.3% to 3.2%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in May 2017

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year olds) decreased by 1,260 (-7.8%) to 14’956. Compared to the previous year, this represents a drop of 1’767 persons (-10.6%).

Job search in May 2017

A total of 202,419 post-docs were registered, 5’938 less than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this figure fell by 3,820 (-1.9%).

Reported vacancies in May 2017

The number of vacancies reported to RAV decreased by 142 to 11,977 posts.

Calculated work in March 2017

In March 2017 4’951 persons were affected by short-time work, 542 fewer persons (-9.9%) than in the previous month. The number of farms affected rose by 6 units (+ 1.1%) to 540. The hours worked fell by 8’890 (+ 2.9%) to 310’288 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (March 2016), 346’997 hours of absence had been recorded, which had spread to 5’962 persons in 664 companies.

Controls in March 2017

According to the provisional figures of the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment compensation during the month of March 2017 amounted to 3’882 persons.
