Registered unemployment in April 2018 – According to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), at the end of April 2018, 119,781 unemployed were registered at the Regional Employment Centers (RAV), 10,632 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate fell from 2.9% in March 2018 to 2.7% in the month under review. Compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 26’546 persons (-18.1%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 2.9% to 2.7%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in April 2018

Youth unemployment (15-24 year-olds) decreased by 1’635 (-12.1%) to 11’916. Compared to the same month last year, this represents a decrease of 4,300 people (-26.5%).

Unemployed 50 and more in April 2018

The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 2,326 people (-6.3%) to 34,313. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponds to a decrease of 4,649 persons (-11.9%).

Job seekers in April 2018

A total of 194’060 jobseekers were registered, 7’059 less than in the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 14,297 people (-6.9%).

Reported vacancies in April 2018

The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 1,203 to 14,431.

Billed short-time working in February 2018

In February 2018, 1,818 people were affected by short-time work, 123 fewer (-6.3%) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 6 units (+ 3.9%) to 159. The lost working hours increased by 273 (+ 0.3%) to 96’741 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (February 2017) 301’398 hours of absence were registered, which had been distributed to 5’493 persons in 534 companies.

Deductions in February 2018

According to preliminary figures from the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of February 2018 amounted to 3’066 persons.
