Swiss Producer and Import Price Index in February 2021: -1.1 percent YoY, unchanged MoM

18.03.2021 – The Producer and Import Price Index remained unchanged in February 2021 compared with the previous month. The index stood at 100.3 points (December 2020 = 100). Petroleum products as well as basic metals and semi-finished metal products in particular saw higher prices, while pharmaceutical products became cheaper.

23.02.2021 – The Producer and Import Price Index rose in January 2021 by 0.3% compared with the previous month, reaching 100.3 points (December 2020 = 100). The rise is due in particular to higher prices for scrap, petroleum products, as well as for basic metals and semi-finished metal products. Compared with January 2020, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 2.1%.

Switzerland’s GDP grew by 7.2 % in the 3rd quarter of 2020, after decreasing by a total of 8.6 % in the first half of the year. Domestic demand and parts of the service sector recovered significantly, while international developments had an adverse impact on exports.

Price indices’ upgrade includes addition of an official residential property price index

From 2021, the price indices published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) will be armed with an updated methodology that reflects market changes as closely as possible. Furthermore, a new price index will be added to the existing set, measuring residential property price change, which will be published on a quarterly basis.
