These articles will appear on the SNB data portal (data.snb.ch, Resources, International economic affairs, Focus articles) as so-called focus articles.
The first focus article is out now and illustrates how the activities of multinational enterprises (MNEs) are recognised in the balance of payments. Using a notional MNE, it describes how such activities are entered into the main aggregates and different components of the balance of payments. This article is thus intended to promote understanding of the methodology used in the balance of payments. It also explains how the SNB supports data users in interpreting the aggregate figures.
