Swiss Producer and Import Price Index in May 2022: +6.9 percent YoY, +0.9 percent MoM

15.06.2022 – The Producer and Import Price Index rose in May 2022 by 0.9% compared with the previous month, reaching 109.4 points (December 2020 = 100). In particular, petroleum products, petroleum and natural gas as well as chemical products saw higher prices. Compared with May 2021, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products rose by 6.9%. These are the results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). In particular, higher prices for petroleum products, plastic products, plastics in primary forms, basic metals and semi-finished metal products, paper and paper products were responsible for the growth in the producer price index compared with the previous month. 15.06.2022 – The Producer and Import Price Index rose in May 2022 by 0.9% compared with the previous month, reaching 109.4 points (December 2020 = 100). In particular, petroleum products, petroleum and natural gas as well as chemical products saw higher prices. Compared with May 2021, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products rose by 6.9%. These are the results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In particular, higher prices for petroleum products, plastic products, plastics in primary forms, basic metals and semi-finished metal products, paper and paper products were responsible for the growth in the producer price index compared with the previous month. Rising prices were also seen in printing, composition and binding, gas, meat and meat products, other chemical products and timber products. Pharmaceutical products and scrap, on the other hand, became cheaper.

The import price index registered higher prices compared with April 2022, particularly for petroleum and natural gas, petroleum products and chemical products. Plastic products, timber products, paper and paper products, basic iron and steel, glass and glass products, basic pharmaceutical products, processed steel and other non-metallic mineral products also became more expensive. In contrast, non-ferrous metals and products made therefrom, as well as computers, showed falling prices.
