Switzerland Unemployment in February 2018: Down to 3.2 percent from 3.3 percent, seasonally adjusted unchanged at 2.9 percent

Unemployment Rate (not seasonally adjusted) Registered unemployment in February 2018 – According to SECO surveys, at the end of February 2018, 143,930 unemployed people were registered with the regional employment agencies (RAV), 5,231 fewer than in the previous month. The unemployment rate fell from 3.3% in January 2018 to 3.2% in the month under review. Unemployment Rate (not seasonally adjusted)

Registered unemployment in February 2018 – According to SECO surveys, at the end of February 2018, 143,930 unemployed people were registered with the regional employment agencies (RAV), 5,231 fewer than in the previous month. The unemployment rate fell from 3.3% in January 2018 to 3.2% in the month under review. Compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 15,879 persons (-9.9%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged at 2.9%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in February 2018
Youth unemployment (15-24 year-olds) decreased by 754 (-4.6%) to 15,791. Compared to the same month last year, this represents a decrease of 3,317 persons (-17.4%).

Unemployed 50 and more in February 2018
The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 855 people (-2.1%) to 39,122. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 2,109 persons (-5.1%).

Job seekers in February 2018
A total of 208,617 jobseekers were registered, 4,508 fewer than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 15’010 persons (-6.7%).

Notified vacancies in February 2018
The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 781 to 13,122.

Billed short-time working in December 2017
In December 2017, 1’359 persons were affected by short-time work, 124 fewer persons (-8.4%) than in the previous month. The number of farms affected decreased by 40 units (-24.7%) to 122. The number of lost hours decreased by 21’868 (-21.2%) to 81’317 hours. In the same period of the previous year (December 2016), 271,502 lost hours had been registered, which had spread to 5,350 persons in 475 companies.

Deductions in December 2017
According to preliminary figures from unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of December 2017 amounted to 3,443 people.
