The unemployment rate fell from 2.5% in March 2019 to 2.4% in the month under review. Compared to the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 12,483 persons (-10.4%).

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in April 2019
Youth unemployment (15-24 year-olds) decreased by 912 (-7.9%) to 10,661. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 1’255 persons (-10.5%).

Unemployed 50 and more in April 2019
The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 1’222 persons (-3.8%) to 30’650. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 3,663 persons (-10.7%).

Job seekers in April 2019
A total of 183,549 jobseekers were registered, 5,918 fewer than the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 10,511 (-5.4%).

Notified vacancies in April 2019
On 1 July 2018, the obligation to register professional types with an unemployment rate of at least 8% was introduced throughout Switzerland. The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 549 to 37,958 in April. Of the 37,958 jobs, 23,468 were subject to mandatory reporting.

Billed short-time working in February 2019
In February 2019, 760 people were affected by short-time work, 42 ​​more (+ 5.8%) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 4 units (+ 6.5%) to 66. The lost working hours increased by 3,777 (+ 8.4%) to 48,664 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (February 2018), 96,741 lost hours had been registered, which had been distributed to 1,818 persons in 159 companies.

Deductions in February 2019
According to preliminary figures from unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of February 2019 amounted to 2’562 persons.
