Switzerland Unemployment in March 2018: Down to 2.9 percent from 3.2 percent, seasonally adjusted unchanged at 2.9 percent

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged at 2.9%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in March 2018

Youth unemployment (aged 15-24) decreased by 2’240 (-14.2%) to 13’551. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease by 4’012 persons (-22.8%).

Unemployed 50 and more in March 2018
The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 2’483 persons (-6.3%) to 36’639. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 3,310 persons (-8.3%).

Job seekers in March 2018
A total of 201,119 jobseekers were registered, 7,498 fewer than in the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this figure was thus 16,129 (-7.4%).

Notified vacancies in March 2018
The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 106 to 13,228.

Billed short-time working in January 2018
In January 2018, 1,941 people were affected by short-time work, 582 more (+ 42.8%) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 31 units (+ 25.4%) to 153. The lost working hours increased by 15’151 (+ 18.6%) to 96’468 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (January 2017), 356,691 lost hours had been registered, which had spread to 6,217 persons in 541 companies.

Deductions in January 2018

According to preliminary figures from unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of January 2018 amounted to 3’565 persons.
