Unemployment Rate (not seasonally adjusted) Bern, 08.09.2017 – Registered unemployment in August 2017 – At the end of August 2017 135’578 unemployed persons were registered at the Regional Employment Services Centers (RAV), according to the SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs), 1’652 more than in the previous month. Bern, 08.09.2017 – Registered unemployment in August 2017 – At the end of August 2017 135’578 unemployed persons were registered at the Regional Employment Services Centers (RAV), according to the SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs), 1’652 more than in the previous month. The unemployment rate remained at 3.0% in the reporting month. Compared to the previous month, unemployment decreased by 7’280 persons (-5.1%).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.2%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in August 2017
Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year olds) rose by 3’089 persons (+ 19.7%) to 18’752. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 1,888 persons (-9.1%).

Unemployed 50 and more in August 2017
The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 408 persons (-1.1%) to 35’347. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 534 persons (-1.5%).

Inquiries in August 2017
A total of 195,334 jobseekers were registered, 111 more than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this figure fell by 6’655 persons (-3.3%).

Reported vacancies in August 2017
The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 233 to 12,439 posts.

Calculated work in June 2017
In June 2017, 3,351 people were affected by short-time work, 525 fewer persons
(-13.5%) than in the previous month. The number of holdings decreased by 38 units (-9.8%) to 351. The hours worked fell by 35’348 (-17.3%) to 169’431 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (June 2016), 335,760 hours of waiting had been registered, which had spread to 5’575 persons in 574 companies.

Controls in June 2017
According to the provisional figures of the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment compensation during the month of June 2017 amounted to 3’775 persons.
