Berne, 10 October 2017 – Registered unemployment in September 2017 – According to the SECO surveys, 133,169 unemployed persons were registered at the regional employment services centers (RAV) at the end of September 2017, 2,409 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate remained at 3.0% in the reporting month. Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell by 9’506 persons (-6.7%).

Seasonally adjusted Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate changed at 3.2% to 3.1%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in September 2017

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year olds) fell by 1,043 persons (-5.6%) to 17’709. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 2’318 persons (-11.6%).

Unemployed 50 and more in September 2017

The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 164 (-0.5%) to 35’183. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 802 (-2.2%).

Job search in September 2017

A total of 193’624 jobseekers were registered, 1,710 less than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this figure fell by 9’944 persons (-4.9%).

Reported vacancies in September 2017

The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 17 to 12’456 posts.

Settled short-time work in July 2017

In July 2017 1’807 persons were affected by short-time work, 1’544 persons less (-46.1%) than in the previous month. The number of firms affected decreased by 142 units (-40.5%) to 209. The lost working hours decreased by 83’568 (-49.3%) to 85’863 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (July 2016) 210’656 hours of waiting had been recorded, which had spread to 4’250 persons in 453 companies.

Expenses in July 2017

According to the provisional figures of the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment compensation during the month of July 2017 amounted to 2’781 persons.
